Dreier Statement on DeLay Decision

April 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas,CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, issued the following statement today in reaction to the decision of Congressman Tom DeLay’s (R-TX) announcement:

"Tom DeLay has always been a fighter for his core beliefs and the interests of the nation. With this decision, he has put the interests of others ahead of his own. He was very clear in that he didn’t want this election to be a referendum on him. He rightly believes the debate in his district, and all over the country, should focus on the issues that matter - tax relief, economic growth, and national security.

"Tom and his family have always worked hard for the principles in which they believe, and to improve the lives of children in foster care all over this country. As they begin this new chapter in their lives, I am confident they will continue to be guided by their faith, their devotion to each other, and the causes which they champion."
