September 22, 2006 Carson Votes to Protect Military Personnel Finances Yesterday, Congresswoman Carson voted in favor of S. 418, the Military Personnel Financial Services Protection Act. S. 418 targets financial services and insurance companies that prey upon service men and women. It bans the sale of certain financial products on military bases at home and overseas and also requires that Federal regulators meet twice a year to monitor enforcement of standards established in this legislation. The measure was approved by the House with a vote of 418-3 and by unanimous consent in the Senate. Upon passage of the bill, Congresswoman Carson commented, “This bill will offer many service men and women a more financially sound future they deserve. Fair and honest financial advice should be readily available to each American, and this bill represents an important step in that direction.”
