Chairman Chris Cannon

Chairman's Welcome

On behalf of the members of the Congressional Western Caucus, I would like to welcome you to our website.

Over the past decade, the West has experienced economic and population growth unlike any other region in the United States.  Members of the Western Caucus recognize this rapid growth creates tremendous opportunity as well as unique problems.  The Caucus mission is to enhance and sustain this growth, preserve the West’s dynamic and unique culture, and to find innovative solutions that address the distinctive concerns facing western and rural communities.

To accomplish this mission, the Western Caucus is committed to advancing a few key principles.  These principles include: protecting private property, strengthening local control and federalism, promoting economic growth, and increasing energy independence.  In advocating these principles, we recognize the need to sustain a vibrant western economy while maintaining a commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment for present and future generations.  We believe economic growth and conservation are not mutually exclusive goals and can be accomplished by promoting balanced, common-sense reforms.
