WASHINGTON, DC - $50,000 in funding secured by Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) will help construct a new arts center at the historic Spencer Ice Plant, she noted today. The funding was included in the Department of Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for 2007 (H.R. 5389), which passed the U.S. House last night.
"I'm extremely pleased we were able to secure this funding to help restore the historic Spencer Ice Plant," said Capito. "This funding will help the Roane County Arts & Humanities Council restore a historic building while creating a venue to provide a variety of educational and cultural events. That's a win-win situation for the residents of Spencer and the rest of Roane County."
The restoration of the plant will allow the Roane County Arts & Humanities Council to host a variety of scholastic and community events, including musical performances and art competitions. The Council has committed a $50,000 match to the project.
The legislation now heads to the Senate where it awaits legislative action.
