Committees

As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Joe Wilson currently serves on three committees consisting of subcommittees that oversee specific types of legislation. To learn more about the jurisdiction of the subcommittees Joe serves on, please read the following information:

House Armed Services Committee

Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces

Responsible for all Army and Air Force acquisition programs (except strategic weapons and lift programs, special operations, and information technology accounts). In addition, the subcommittee will be responsible for all Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs, National Guard and Army and Air Force reserve modernization, and ammunition programs.

Subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities

Responsible for DOD counter proliferation and counter terrorism programs and initiatives. In addition, the subcommittee will be responsible for Special Operations Forces, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, information technology policy and programs, force protection policy and oversight, and related intelligence support.

House International Relations Committee

Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific

Responsible for matters affecting the political relations between the United States and other countries and regions, including resolutions or other legislative measures directed to such relations. (2) Legislation with respect to disaster assistance outside the Foreign Assistance Act, boundary issues, and international claims. (3) Legislation with respect to region or country specific loans or other financial relations outside the Foreign Assistance Act. (4) Resolutions of disapproval under section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act, with respect to foreign military sales. (5) Legislation and oversight regarding human rights practices in particular countries. (6) Oversight of regional lending institutions.
(7) Oversight of matters related to the regional activities of the United Nations, of its affiliated agencies, and of other multilateral institutions. (8) Identification and development of options for meeting future problems and issues relating to U.S. interests in the region. (9) Base rights and other facilities access agreements and regional security pacts. (10) Oversight of matters relating to parliamentary conferences and exchanges involving the region. (11) Concurrent oversight jurisdiction with respect to matters assigned to the functional subcommittees insofar as they may affect the region. (12) Oversight of all foreign assistance activities affecting the region. (13) Such other matters as the Chairman of the Full Committee may determine.

Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

Responsible for oversight and investigations of all matters within the jurisdiction of the Committee.

House Education and the Workforce Committee

Subcommittee on Employer-Employee Relations

Responsible for pension, health, and other employee benefits, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA); all matters dealing with rela­tionships between employers and employees generally including, the National Labor Relations Act and Bureau of Labor Statistics; all matters related to equal employment opportunity and civil rights in employment.

Subcommittee on Education Reform

Responsible for education from preschool through the high school level including, but not limited to, elementary and secondary education generally, vocational education, preschool programs including the Head Start Act, school lunch and child nutrition, and overseas dependent schools; special education programs including, but not limited to, alcohol and drug abuse, education of the disabled, migrant and agricultural labor education and homeless education; educational research and improvement, including the Institute of Education Sciences; poverty programs, including the Community Services Block Grant Act and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
