Congressional Art Competition

It’s time to start thinking about the 2006 Congressional Art Competition. We had a wonderful turnout for last year’s event, with 22 artists sharing their works with our district. Their artwork hung in Todd Hall, at MTSU, and was open to the public. Currently our winner, Marissa Hammond of Gallatin High School, has her self portrait hanging in the United States Capitol. I am so proud of all the students who participated in the first of our annual competitions.

This year, each high school in the Sixth District may nominate two artists. After the winners from each high school are chosen, the Student Information Form must be filled out and submitted no later than Monday, April 10th. All winners from the individual high schools will then participate in a district-wide competition to be held sometime in early May. Details regarding the specific time and location will be announced at a later date.

The Student Display Form should be affixed to the back of the pieces being entered into the competition. The General Guidelines give a concise outline as to the rules of the competition. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call Rekha Chandrasekaran of my DC staff at 202-225-4231. You can also email her at bgartinfo@mail.house.gov. She will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the talented young artists of the Sixth Congressional District to convey their great works of art, and I hope that each high school takes advantage of this prospect.
