Capito Applauds Job Gains and Falling Unemployment
West Virginia unemployment remains historically low

CHARLESTON, WV - Citing the job gains and falling unemployment announced today by the U.S. Department of Labor, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito said that recent tax relief enacted by Congress is growing our economy and benefiting American families.

According to the Labor Department, 92,000 jobs were created in October, and upward revisions for August and September added an additional 139,000 jobs for a total of more than 6.8 million new jobs since August 2003.  The unemployment rate also fell from 4.6 percent to 4.4 percent, the lowest level since April 2001.

"My position on taxes is pretty clear: I believe families in West Virginia and across the nation are taxed enough and should be allowed to keep more of what they earn," said Capito.  "Tax relief that we have put in place over the last five years has put money back into the pockets of families and created a growing economy that is adding jobs.  I am proud to have supported across-the-board tax relief to benefit every single taxpayer.  These pro-growth policies are working for America and putting more Americans to work."

Nationally, our economy has created 38 consecutive months of job growth, low unemployment, and the best job market in five years - with 6.8 million new jobs since August 2003.

In West Virginia, the latest unemployment figures for the month of September show a historically low 4.7% unemployment rate.  So far in 2006, the average unemployment rate in West Virginia is also a low 4.7%.
