Capito Announces West Virginia Academy Days
Congresswoman urges young men and women to consider serving our country

CHARLESTON, WV - Urging the young men and women of West Virginia to consider serving our country, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today announced that she will host two local "Academy Days."   The meetings, held in Charleston and Hedgesville, will give West Virginia high school students an opportunity to learn about admissions to the five U.S. Service Academies: Air Force, Military (West Point), Navy, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard.

"I consider making nominations to the service academies one of my most important responsibilities as a United States Congresswoman.  Attending one of these exceptional institutions is an outstanding educational opportunity for young West Virginians and an inspirational way to serve our country," said Rep. Capito.

Similar to college fairs, Academy Days are a recruiting tool for the military academies to send representatives to address interested students regarding their particular academy.  Interested candidates receive information on the advantages of U.S. service academies as well as guidance in the nomination and appointment process.

Rep. Capito added, "In order to win the war on terrorism and keep our nation secure, our Armed Forces must have sharp, eager and talented individuals serving our country.  I encourage all high school students interested in finding out more about a service academy nomination to attend and learn more about this excellent way to advance their education while serving our country."

At the meetings, a representative of each academy will make a presentation and answer questions from local prospective candidates, parents, and school counselors.
