Inglis excited about Clemson University’s NSF research site designation

(October 16, 2006)

Last week, the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced Clemson University as a research site for the Center for Engineering Logistics and Distribution (CELDi).

Clemson will receive approximately $1 million over the next three years through industry projects and matching contributions, while increasing the flow of raw materials and distribution of products for Homeland Security to disaster preparedness.

Research Subcommittee Chairman Bob Inglis (R-SC) said Monday he’s always excited to hear about having an in-state institution receive national recognition. The Research Subcommittee of the House Science Committee has oversight of the NSF.

"This is certainly another indicator of Clemson's increasing list of achievements when its science facilities have been recognized by its peers," said Inglis.

Over the past year, Inglis has showcased the Upstate’s knowledge-based economy and growth in technology by bringing to the area key influential science and technology figures like Dr. John Marburger, the President’s top adviser on science and technology issues, and Dr. Arden Bement, Director of the National Science Foundation.

As one of eight schools nationally, the broader plan of developing logistic and integrated solutions is to help the United States become more competitive in the world. CELDi is based on sharing research among member institutions so industry partners can work with Fortune 500 companies in manufacturing, distribution, transportation and information technology.
