Health Care

Congressman Hinojosa is committed to increasing the access to quality health care in our nation, and especially in Texas. He knows that the health of a community is crucial to its educational and economic success.

Hinojosa recently participated in a blood drive to bring attention to the need for blood donations throughout the year.

Since coming to Congress in 1997, Hinojosa has brought millions of dollars in federal funding to the 15th Congressional District to build new health facilities, expand existing ones and support programs that keep Texans healthy. His assistance has been key in projects such as the Driscoll Children's Specialty Center in McAllen, Nuestra Clinica del Valle, and the Shepherd's Community Health Center in Beeville. He has fought for Veterans to have access surgical care in the Rio Grande Valley hospitals instead of having to travel 250 miles to San Antonio.

Congressman Hinojosa has championed legislation that will improve the health care system for all Americans. He strongly supports initiatives to increase the number of lifesaving organ donations in this country. In the 109th Congress, he introduced H.R. 1993, the Living Organ Donor Job Security Act. This legislation extends the protections of the Family and Medical Leave Act to individuals that choose to save a life by donating a regenerative portion of an organ, such as a kidney.

Hinojosa actively supports the effort to create new formulas for Medicare reimbursement to physicians and rural hospitals. Additionally, he looks for ways to increase medical research funding at the National Institutes of Health.
