Rep. Gohmert Reacts to Nomination of Dr. Gates to head Department of Defense
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert (TX-01) today made the following comments in response to the President’s recent nomination of Dr. Bob Gates as Secretary of the Department of Defense:
“Dr. Bob Gates, whom I do consider a friend, is a man of character with deep beliefs in this country. His prior experience as Director of the CIA in addition to all of his other services to our country makes him imminently qualified. When I was visiting with him this summer in College Station, we discussed offers from the President in previous years, but he believed his role in life was to finish his tenure at Texas A&M and then retire. Apparently, he has now seen how badly he was needed after Tuesday night, and the President must have done a better job of persuading him than he did the voters. Having discussed with him his ideas on Iraq and his role in the James Baker Iraq study, I believe the President chose a good man.” said Gohmert.
