House Approves FY'07 Homeland Security Conference Report
Friday, September 29, 2006 - WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives approved a House-Senate Conference agreement, authored by Congressman Rogers, that funds the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for Fiscal Year 2007.  The legislation provides $34.8 billion for DHS operations and activities, an increase of $2.3 billion above fiscal year 2006 and $2.7 billion above the President’s request (includes $1.8 in emergency spending).  The agreement aggressively addresses our most critical homeland security needs, including: border and immigration security; nuclear detection; port, cargo and container security; transportation security; natural disaster preparedness and response; and support to local first responders.

Wednesday, June 07, 2006 - WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives approved the annual spending bill that funds the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Fiscal Year 2007.  The $32 billion legislation, which was authored by Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-05), emphasizes border security, immigration enforcement, and emergency response and preparedness based on the lessons of Hurricane Katrina.
Highlights: House Passed FY'07 Homeland Security Appropriations
Wednesday, June 07, 2006 - The House bill provides $32.08 billion for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in fiscal year 2007, $1.8 billion above the fiscal year 2006 enacted levels, and $1.065 billion above the President’s request.  The bill balances critical homeland security and anti-terrorism activities with legacy missions; aggressively addresses new threats such as nuclear detection and the persistent challenges of border and immigration security; and requires changes in disaster assistance based upon lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina.  It also significantly moves DHS forward in the area of port, container, and cargo security.

FY'07 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill - Full Committee Markup
Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - I am pleased to be here for the consideration of the FY 2007 appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security.  The bill before us provides $32.08 billion in discretionary funds for the upcoming fiscal year, $1.8 billion above fiscal year 2006 and – after adjusting for aviation passenger fees – $165 million below the President’s request.  Our allocation does not completely plug the $1.3 billion hole the President created by proposing a new passenger security fee – a fee we cannot agree to – but it does provide ample resources to fund the Department’s operations in FY 2007.
FY’07 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill – Subcommittee Markup
Thursday, May 11, 2006 - I am pleased to be here today to present the FY 2007 appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security. The bill before us provides $32.08 billion in discretionary funds for the upcoming fiscal year, $1.8 billion above fiscal year 2006 and – after adjusting for aviation passenger fees – $165 million below the President’s request.  While our allocation does not completely plug the $1.3 billion hole the President created by proposing a new passenger security fee – a fee we cannot agree to – our allocation gives us ample resources to fund the Department’s operations in FY 2007.

FY’07 Homeland Security Appropriations Hearing – Directorate of Preparedness
Thursday, March 30, 2006 - This afternoon we welcome the Under Secretary of the new Preparedness Directorate, George Foresman and the Assistant Secretary for Grants and Training, Tracy Henke.  This is the first appearance before the Subcommittee for both of our witnesses and I am pleased you are able to join us.  In the broader sense, this is the first hearing for the new Preparedness Directorate, which is barely six months old.  We are curious to hear your assessment of how the new organization is performing and where it is going.
