Frelinghuysen Comments on Border Security
Washington, DC - Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) tonight offered the following statement after the President delivered a nationally televised address about border security and immigration reform.
"For immigration reform to be successful, one point is clear: Real border security must be priority one. In this post 9/11 world, we need to enforce existing immigration laws and take all necessary steps to secure our borders. Open borders are a grave national security threat.
Deploying the National Guard to the border is a temporary solution. We need more Border Patrol Agents and more sophisticated surveillance technology, both of which would stem the flow of illegal immigrants, illegal drugs, and human trafficking.
The debate over establishing fairer and more effective immigration and border laws must also include real enforcement against unlawful employers who are breaking both immigration and taxation laws."
