Congressman Dent gets perfect score from
manufacturing employers
Meanwhile, new employment numbers show
strong economy
U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) was honored this month by the National
Association of Manufacturers (NAM) for a 100 percent voting record in the
109th Congress. Congressman Dent was one of 126 Members of Congress to
receive a perfect score.
“I am particularly honored by this distinction because I believe supporting
American manufacturers is absolutely essential to our economy and our
national security,” Congressman Dent said. “These companies provide
high-paying, steady jobs and the innovation to compete in the global
economy. It is imperative that we provide a business environment that
stimulates growth for small- to mid-sized companies.”
Votes that counted toward the score include support for open markets for
American goods, limiting frivolous lawsuits, repealing the “death tax” on
family businesses, and support for a comprehensive energy plan.
A large number of NAM’s 100 Percent Club, like Congressman Dent, come from
manufacturing states in the Middle Atlantic and Midwest regions.
“Their willingness to go to bat for important manufacturing issues is a
credit to their understanding of the central role of manufacturing in our
nation’s economic vitality,” NAM President John Engler said. “Their
contributions and votes will help ensure America’s manufacturing base will
be strong for years to come.”
Congressman Dent further noted today’s announcement by the Labor Department
that more than 2 million new jobs have been created in the United States in
the past year, including 92,000 in October, for a total of 6.8 million new
jobs since August 2003. Unemployment is down to 4.4 percent and real wages
have grown 2.4 percent in the past year. Two years of double-digit growth in
tax revenues has helped to shrink the deficit.
“Common-sense policies in taxes, trade and fiscal management help the
economy and American workers, and I will always support them,” Congressman
Dent said.
