ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE

Senator Domenici serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

Jurisdiction of the Committee includes oversight and legislative responsibilities for: National Energy Policy, including international energy affairs and emergency preparedness; nuclear waste policy; privatization of federal assets; Native Hawaiian matters. The Energy Committee's far-reaching legislative activity can be described in the following major areas: energy resources and development, including regulation, conservation, strategic petroleum reserves and appliance standards; nuclear energy; Indian affairs; public lands and their renewable resources; surface mining, Federal coal, oil, and gas, other mineral leasing; territories and insular possessions; and water resources.

Senator Domenici's accomplishments and legislation through the Energy and Natural Resources Committee for the 108th Congress include:

S.32 – Senator Domenici co-sponsored this bill that establishes Institutes to conduct research on the prevention of, and restoration from, wildfires in forest and woodland ecosystems of the interior West.

S.213 – Senator Domenici co-sponsored the Albuquerque Biological Park Title Clarification Act. This bill addresses a title dispute concerning Tingley Beach and San Gabriel Park.

S.246– Senator Domenici sponsored this non-controversial bill that provided for certain Bureau of Land Management land to be held in trust for the Pueblo of Santa Clara and the Pueblo of San Ildefonso. President George W. Bush signed this bill into law by on July 30, 2003.

S.643 – A bill to authorize the Secretary of the Interior, in cooperation with the University of New Mexico, to construct and occupy a portion of the Hibben Center for Archaeological Research at the University of New Mexico.

S.1211 – Senator Domenici sponsored the Reclamation Wastewater and Groundwater Study and Facilities Act. This bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to undertake a demonstration program for water reclamation and desalination in the Tularosa Basin of New Mexico.

S.1516 – Senator Domenici sponsored the Salt Cedar Control Demonstration Act. This bill authorizes the Department of the Interior to carry out an assessment and demonstration program to determine the best ways to control and mitigate against salt cedar and Russian olive.
