Resources for Families

Senator Ben Nelson

As Nebraska’s Senator I have worked hard to promote and strengthen the family. As many Nebraskans have come to realize, there are many stresses and strains out there that families face every day. I know this not only from speaking with my constituents, but also from my experiences as a father and a grandfather as well.

Families can access many helpful resources that exist nationwide and in Nebraska that can help both parents and their children deal with these daily pressures. I have compiled a list of websites below to help get families the resources they may need today or sometime in the future under the areas of Education, Health, Technology, and Safety. Feel free to bookmark this page or add the links you find helpful to your list of frequently visited websites.

With the New Year upon us many Nebraskans are making their resolutions for 2006.

If your resolution involves losing weight and improving your health you might want to look into participating in N-Lighten Nebraska 2006 which is now open for registration. This is a three month program, which runs from February 1 through May 1, 2006, sponsored by the Nebraska Sports Council, the same organization that sponsors the Cornhusker Games.

Over the past three years N-Lighten Nebraska has become an important wellness initiative, having helped more than 60,000 Nebraskans improve their exercise and eating habits in an inexpensive and safe way. The goal is to promote healthful and active lifestyles, good sportsmanship and provide quality competition for Nebraska athletes of all ages and abilities.

Having healthier Nebraskans is not only good for our state but it’s a way to help hold down health care and insurance costs.
