A Westerville resident with a long and varied background in education has agreed to assist U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Delaware County) in selecting nominees for our nation’s service academies.

Nancy Nestor-Baker will participate on Tiberi’s Service Academy Selection Board this fall.

“I’m delighted that Nancy has found time to assist our office in nominating young people for appointment to our four service academies,” said Tiberi. “As a mother, an educator and administrator at The Ohio State University and a long-time member of the Westerville Board of Education, she’ll provide a unique perspective in identifying outstanding potential military officers.”

Nestor-Baker earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio State, and served as President of the Westerville school board from 1994-1996 and 2002-2003.

Each year, Tiberi asks former military members, educators and business people from the 12th Congressional District to serve as volunteer members of his board. The seven-member panel holds extensive interviews with students who are seeking appointment to the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force and Merchant Marine Academies.

Tiberi will make nominations to the academies based on the board’s recommendations. However, it is up to the institutions themselves to offer appointments to prospective students.
