Tiberi Says First Responders in Two Licking County Communities to Receive Federal Grants
COLUMBUS,
Oct 10 -
First responders in two Licking County communities will receive federal grants to purchase badly needed equipment, Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-Delaware Co.) said today.
The Monroe Township Fire Department in Johnstown and the Utica Emergency Squad will both receive money under the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, according to Tiberi.
“Fire and emergency service personnel do their best to make their communities safe,” said Tiberi, “and to do their jobs right they need the up-to-date, reliable equipment.
“These grants will help them acquire the tools they need to provide the best, most reliable service possible.”
The Monroe Township Fire Department will use its $57,563 grant to purchase 14 sets of self-contained breathing apparatus. Chief Dudley Wright said the new equipment will replace older, outdated gear. He hopes to have the new equipment in use by early next year.
Previous firefighter assistance grants have allowed the department to purchase a new tanker and radio communications equipment, Wright said.
Meanwhile, the Utica Emergency Squad will use a $24,387 grant to purchase new protective gear for squad members. The new equipment will provide protection for personnel when they provide aid or extricate victims trapped at accident scenes or other hazardous situations, according to Chief Ken Peters.
The Utica Emergency Squad serves the Village of Utica as well as Morgan and Washington townships.
