Education
As being the first in my family to graduate high school and college I realize first hand that a quality education is the key to a bright and promising future for all of Ohio's students.
Increased access to strong educational programs empower individuals to develop the skills, knowledge, and a sense of responsibility to thrive in their communities.
This year, Congress will consider H.R. 609, the College Access and Opportunity Act, to reauthorize the Higher Education Act (HEA). Today, higher education is playing a more vital role than ever in shaping our nation's competitiveness. Education is the great equalizer in this nation. As Congress works to complete HEA reauthorization, expanding access for low and middle income students the Higher Education Act was established to serve is paramount among the goals for reform.
Among its provisions, H.R. 609 provides extra Pell Grant aid for high-achieving first and second-year students; provides a year-round Pell Grant; reduces loan origination fees for students; increases loan limits for first and second-year students; repeals the “single-holder” rule to allow consumers to shop for the best rate on consolidation loans; encourages rehabilitation of defaulted loans, allowing a borrower to regain good standing and clear up negative credit history; and further simplifies the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
