WELDON ATTENDS RIBBON-CUTTING OF NEWLY RENOVATED POST OFFICE IN CONSHOHOCKEN

UPPER DARBY, Pa., Oct 23 - In celebration of his successful effort to provide superior services to residents of Pennsylvania’s 7th District, U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of renovations to the U.S. Post Office on Fayette St. in Conshohocken, Pa.

The Fayette Street Post Office received an extensive face-lift that included stripping the walls of lead paint, repainting and repairing potholes in the sidewalk around the post office. The project began in June 2006, with the extensive lead paint removal alone taking over two months to complete.

Congressman Weldon was first alerted to the decrepit condition of the post office by several of his constituents during a visit to Conshohocken in March 2006. Weldon met with U.S. Postal Service Regional Manager Frank Neri and received assurances that the situation would receive his personal attention.

“I understand the need for all levels of government to work in tandem so that our mutual constituents, residents and businesses, are all served well,” said Congressman Weldon. “I am thankful that my constituents brought the shoddy state of a federal building to my attention so that I could make sure the situation was remedied. The people of Conshohocken deserve to send and receive mail in an environment that is clean, safe, and representative of both the nation and the community. This renovation is an example of your tax dollars working to benefit the local residents.”

Congressman Weldon has worked to improve U.S. postal delivery and service affecting 7th District residents. After hearing concerns from constituents about problematic mail delivery for residents of Bethel Township, Pa., Weldon met with the U.S. Postal Service Philadelphia District Manager in May 2006 to formulate a solution for residents who were unhappy with their mail service under the designation of Marcus Hook, Pa. Congressman Weldon was able to help Bethel residents receive a new town designation as Garnet Valley, Pa. The move will provide Bethel with a post office that it will share with Concord Township. Congressman Weldon has also pledged his commitment to efforts to designate Bethel under its own zip code in the future.
