TSUNAMI RELIEF

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this difficult time. After such terrible tragedies we must join together to help alleviate the suffering of others."

Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton Regarding the Tragic Loss of Life and Devastation Due to the Earthquake and Tsunamis Across Southeast Asia. (December 29, 2004 – Queens, NY)

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Clinton met with local religious leaders and tsunami relief workers at the New York Buddhist Vihara in Queens, NY. They were joined by Royal Pandit Ven. Kurunegoda Piyatissa, Chief Monk of the New York Buddhist Vihara, Congressman Gary Ackerman and New York City Councilman David Weprin.

"My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the victims in more than a dozen nations across Southeast Asia affected by the Bay of Bengal earthquake and subsequent tsunamis in the region.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this difficult time. After such terrible tragedies we must join together to help alleviate the suffering of others. I will do everything I can to help make family members and concerned New Yorkers aware of all the federal resources at their disposal and to help get aid to the affected regions.

Many of my constituents have asked me how they can help the tsunami victims in Southeast Asia. The United States Fund for UNICEF, USA Freedom Corps and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) are three sources of information for organizations helping disaster victims. If you would like to check on any individual organizations, you may visit GuideStar, The National Database of Nonprofit Organizations."
