Bingaman: Carlsbad Fire Department To Benefit From Federal Funds

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman today announced that the Carlsbad Fire Department has been awarded a $621,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The grant can be used for salaries and associated fringe benefits related to hiring. The objective of the Hiring of Firefighters program is to award grants directly to fire departments to help the departments increase the number of frontline firefighters

“This is a significant federal investment in the Carlsbad Fire Department – one that will allow for an increase in staffing of the department,” Bingaman said.

Bingaman is a strong supporter of the Assistance to Firefighters program and has co-sponsored legislation to provide much-needed federal assistance to local fire departments for equipment, training, and fire prevention campaigns.
