Bingaman: Pueblo De Cochiti And City Of Santa Fe To Benefit From HUD Grants

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman reported today that the Pueblo de Cochiti Housing Authority has been awarded $295,739 to help with a variety of eligible affordable housing activities. Additionally, the City of Santa Fe has been awarded $99,175 to carry out programs to prevent or eliminate discriminatory housing practices. The above funds were provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). “Quality, affordable housing is out of reach for some in our state. I am pleased that the federal government is making an affordable housing funds available to the Pueblo de Cochiti and the City of Santa Fe,” Bingaman said. Funds for the Pueblo de Cochiti were awarded through HUD’s Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA) Indian Housing Block Grant Program of 1996. The pueblo can use the funds for housing activities such as new construction, acquisition, modernization or rehabilitation of rental or owner-occupied housing; housing services, housing management for low-income housing; crime prevention safety or model activities as described in the recipient’s Indian Housing Plan. Funds for the City of Santa Fe were awarded through HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) to assist organizations in informing the public about their rights and obligations under the Fair Housing Act and substantially equivalent fair housing laws.
