New Mexico is a blend of cultures, histories, and landscapes. I hope the information on this page will give you insights into the unique character of our state.

SUN, SILENCE AND ADOBE

When Charles F. Lummis described New Mexico in his book Land of Poco Tiempo, he wrote, "Sun, silence, and adobe; that is New Mexico in three words."

Renowned for rich landscapes and a pristine natural environment, New Mexico is founded on a dedication to culture and community, shaped by diverse backgrounds, experiences, and interests. New Mexico offers our country a reflection of ancient cultures, histories and traditions -- but there is also much that is new.

One of the goals central to my work in Washington is to create an environment that rewards discovery and innovation. As a burgeoning economic, artistic, and technologic center of the southwest, New Mexico will continue to play a role in shaping our country for years to come.
