I am pleased that the Senate reached a bipartisan agreement to preserve checks and balances, minority rights, and 217 years of Senate tradition by avoiding the "nuclear option." It is my sincere hope that this will allow us to finally focus on the "people's agenda" that so far has gone unaddressed.
On Monday-faced with an all night Senate session on this nuclear option-I asked Iowans to write and call my offices to share what keeps them up at night. The response was overwhelming-over a thousand Iowans contacted me in a single day. And not surprisingly, many of you feel that the Senate agenda does not match the worries and priorities in your lives.
I spoke on the Senate floor Monday night to share with my colleagues your concerns, and encourage us to move on the people's agenda. I hope you will take a moment to review the comments of your neighbors and fellow Iowans, and continue to share your thoughts and concerns with me. I will continue to share your thoughts with Senate.
