Issues & Legislation - Issue - Agriculture

I will continue to work hard to ensure that North Carolina retains its strong agricultural heritage. My top priority as a Senator was to get a tobacco quota buyout, which we passed in October 2004. The buyout is critically important for our farm families and is expected to provide an economic impact in North Carolina of close to $9 billion. I will also continue to work hard to repeal of the death tax permanently and open new markets to North Carolina’s agricultural products.
