RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Oct 30 -

ESPERANZA WILD FIRE GENERAL FACTS (As Of Friday 11-3-06, 1:00 PM PST):

*The nation's deadliest wildfire disaster in five years

*The fire was set near Cabazon by an arsonist who has yet to be captured.

*Five firefighters have lost their lives.

*There have been 14 fire related injuries reported.

*Over 40,000+ acres have burned.

*Currently the fire has been extinguished.

*All roadways have re-opened.

*Cost of the fire has been reported at $8.3 Million +

*More than 2,800 fire fighters worked to battle the blaze.

*34 Homes have been destroyed; 20 Outbuildings have been destroyed; TOTAL: 54

CALIFORNIA WILD FIRE HISTORY

*36 firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service and California Department of Forestry have died battling California wildfires since 1990.

*Until Thursday, the deadliest wildfire fire-fighting disaster in the United States happened when four firefighters were killed battling the Thirtymile fire in Washington's Okanogan National Forest on July 10, 2001.

*Esperanza fire started nearly three years to the date after Old Fire killed six people, destroyed 1,000 homes and scorched about 100,000 acres in the San Bernardino Mountains above San Bernardino. Santa Ana winds also fueled that deadly blaze.
