Academy Nominations
By participating in one of the five United States military service academies, students are given the opportunity to receive a world-class education and serve their nation as a commissioned officer of the armed forces.

Students interested in applying for a U.S. service academy must obtain a congressional nomination. Congresswoman Bono can nominate 10 students to each academy.

To begin the application process, students can download the academy nomination application form and submit it to a district office. A form may also be requested from Congresswoman Bono's district office. Please call the district office for application deadlines.

In order to qualify for a nomination, students must:

  • Complete and return an application form with a resume listing activities, awards and accomplishments.
  • Submit a 350-500 word essay on why they want to enter the academy.
  • Provide a copy of current high school and college transcripts, and class rank.
  • Submit a copy of SAT and/or ACT scores.
  • Send three letters of recommendation.
  • Provide a wallet sized or 3x5 photo.
  • Complete a one-page, hand-written (in cursive) essay about how the Honor Code is relevant to their life experiences.

Upon completion of the application, a short interview is held with members of the Academy Nominations Selection Committee, comprised of members of Congresswoman Bono's staff, respected members of the community and military officers.
