Before traveling overseas, it is always a good idea to become familiar with the health and safety conditions at your destination. The Department of State’s web page provides country-specific travel tips for many regions of the world and consular information sheets with descriptions of entry requirements, availability of medical services, traffic safety and road conditions, and other similarly useful information. Also available are up-to-date travel warnings posted by the Department of State advising Americans about unsafe travel conditions.

Of course, when Americans travel overseas, it is wise that they have in their possession an unexpired passport. Passport information, including applications forms and instructions, is available online at the Department of State web page.

It is important to remember that applications for new passports must be submitted in person at the nearest passport acceptance facility. Renewals of unexpired passports may be done by mail.

Example of a passport inquiry Senator Kyl can make on behalf of constituents:

“I submitted my application for a passport several weeks ago, and I’m leaving on my trip soon. Why haven’t I received my passport yet?"

The San Francisco Passport Agency processes passport applications filed by U.S. citizens residing in Arizona. Senator Kyl can contact the Passport Agency to check on the status of the passport if the normal processing time has elapsed. If you need an expedited passport, you can pay additional fees for processing and for express delivery to and from the passport facility.
