Senator Rockefeller ANNOUNCES NEWS OF TAA BENEFITS FOR WEIRTON WORKERS   

Washington, DC – Senator Jay Rockefeller learned from the Department of Labor today that Weirton’s steelworkers will receive Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits. Rockefeller wrote Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao on January 6 to make sure that they would receive the job retraining, health care credits, and unemployment benefits they were due.  

“The displaced workers in Weirton deserve these benefits,” said Rockefeller.  “It is always devastating to hear about workers losing their jobs, but these benefits will go a long way toward helping them.    The job training, health care and extended unemployment will give these workers an opportunity to get back on their feet.”
 
The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program is a federal program that provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports.  TAA offers a variety of benefits and reemployment services to assist unemployed workers prepare for and obtain suitable employment. Workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation allowances, income support and other reemployment services.
