SENATOR HUTCHISON APPLAUDS BORDER SECURITY PROGRESS

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), co-author of the Hutchison-Pence proposal to enhance border security and reform immigration, today commended Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on border security progress he announced today. Sen. Hutchison will tour the border near Harlingen, Texas with Secretary Chertoff tomorrow.

“I commend Secretary Chertoff for the significant progress he announced today in securing our borders and I look forward to receiving a first-hand report tomorrow in Harlingen,” Sen. Hutchison said. “As a member of the Appropriations Committee I will continue to work to ensure that the Department of Homeland Security has the necessary resources to protect our country from foreign threats and to secure our borders.

“Ending catch and release is a major accomplishment,” Sen. Hutchison continued. “To build on these achievements, I again call on my colleagues to enact border security measures I have proposed in the Hutchison-Pence plan.”
