SENATOR HUTCHISON ANNOUNCES OVER $55.89 MILLION IN HURRICANE RELIEF FOR TEXAS

WASHINGTON, DC -- Texas’ senior senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), today announced that FEMA has approved Public Assistance grants totaling over $55.89 million for the state of Texas. The funds will be used to reimburse the city of Houston and the Texas Department of Public Safety for costs associated with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

“Texans opened their doors and welcomed thousands of Hurricane Katrina and Rita evacuees, and our public safety personnel were on high alert during both disasters,” said Sen. Hutchison. “This funding will help reimburse Texas for our their generosity and vigilance.”

The City of Houston will receive three grants totaling over $48 million for costs associated with sheltering hurricane evacuees, including project management and rental expenses. The Texas Department of Public Safety will receive $7.86 million to offset expenses related to Hurricane Rita preparation and evacuation.
