SENATE APPROVES HUTCHISON PROPOSAL TO ENCOURAGE
LOWER AIRFARE FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) won unanimous approval today of her amendment putting the Senate on record urging commercial airlines to offer available seats at the lowest price to deployed troops who return home.

"America's sons and daughters are working every day to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. During this time of high deployment, we should make every effort to allow these young men and women to be with loved ones when on leave, especially during family emergencies," Senator Hutchison said. "I am hopeful that the airlines will respond to this clear, bipartisan call."

Senator Hutchison's amendment was added to the Aviation Investment and Revitalization Vision Act (H.R. 2115), the annual authorization bill for the Federal Aviation Administration passed by the Senate on Thursday.
