SENATOR KAY BAILEY HUTCHISON KEYNOTES BROOKS CEREMONY

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- With the backdrop of Hanger 9, the oldest World War I hangar in the United States, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison told a crowd at Brooks City-Base that "they were a model of innovation for future partnerships between military bases and their communities."

The senator made her remarks at the Brooks Air Force Base conveyance ceremony in which the keys to Brooks Air Force Base were transferred to the City of San Antonio. The city will manage the base with the Air Force as its primary tenant and will create a Technology and Business Center.

"Brooks City-Base maintains the critical missions of the Air Force while turning the base into a productive center of business and commerce for the San Antonio community," the senator said.

In 1999, Senator Hutchison worked with Representative Ciro Rodriguez to get approval for the Brooks Efficiency Project. The result is Brooks City-Base.

"We fought hard to get this innovative project through Congress," Senator Hutchison said. "Now the Department of Defense looks at the Brooks concept as a model for bases around the country."
