STATEMENT OF SENATOR KAY BAILEY HUTCHISON ON
PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH'S ADDRESS TO THE NATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "The President has given us a clear proposal that cuts taxes, pays down the debt, preserves Social Security while still significantly funding education, health care and military readiness priorities. This is a sound, responsible budget and I will work hard to help the President get it enacted in this Congress."

"I am particularly pleased that President Bush has renewed his call for tax relief for hard working American families. Having led the effort in the Senate to eliminate the marriage tax penalty that President Clinton twice vetoed, I am excited to finally have a President who is committed to easing the tax burden," Senator Hutchison said.
