Military Veterans' Stolen Information

The Department of Veterans Affairs has put together the following information about the situation and how veterans can respond. This information may be helpful to the 60,000 veterans living in North Dakota and their families.

Federal Agency Assistance

Helping North Dakotans cut government red tape or solve problems you might be having with a federal department or agency is an important part of my job as your U.S. Senator. If you think I might be able to help, please contact my state office nearest you. We will work together and with the agency to review and, hopefully, resolve the matter.

Grant Resource Center

I am often contacted by North Dakotans whose small businesses, non-profit organizations, colleges, universities or communities are looking for grant funds from the federal government to help support their programs or ideas. Each year the federal government distributes billions of dollars in grant money. But sometimes knowing where to look and how to apply is half the battle. Here's where I can help. more»

Consumer Protection Resources

As consumers, we want to make informed and smart choices about the products we buy and with the people we do business. However, it is often difficult to distinguish between what is real and what isn’t real in today’s marketplace. more»

Flag Requests

You can purchase a United States flag through my office and even have that flag flown over the United States Capitol for special occasions or events. more»

Tour Tickets

If you are planning a trip to Washington, DC and are a North Dakota resident, my office can help arrange VIP tours of some of the most historically significant buildings in Washington, DC more»

Military Academy Nominations

Each year I have the opportunity to nominate some of the best and brightest young North Dakotans to attend our nation's military service academies. Appointment to one of these academies allows young people to serve our country while getting a high-quality, full four year scholarship college education at one of the nation's premier educational institutions. more»

Does the IRS Owe You Money?

For nearly 100 North Dakotans, the answer is “Yes!”

You can click here to see if the IRS has an unclaimed federal income tax refund check waiting for you!

The refund checks wound up in the “unclaimed” file because for some reason, the U.S. Postal Service couldn’t deliver them and returned them to the IRS. Most often, the person moved before the refund check was delivered and there was a problem with the forwarding address. Other times, it’s just that the wrong information was provided, or the information provided was illegible on the tax return itself.

Whatever the reason, if your name is on the list, you can claim your lost refund by calling the IRS directly, toll free, at 1–800–829–1040. Or you can click here to contact my office to request my help or ask a question.

Special Greetings

My office can help obtain special recognition for North Dakotans who reach major milestones in their lives, including -- on occasion -- letters of congratulations and recognition from the President of the United States. Birthdays for North Dakotans age 80 and above, wedding anniversaries of 50 years or more, and Eagle Scout awards are a few of the occasions for which we can help you arrange this very special recognition.

Please contact my office to request a special greeting to commemorate a special occasion in the life of some one close to you.

Veterans History Project

The North Dakota Veterans History Project is an important effort to record and preserve the stories of North Dakota's war veterans for all time. I am proud to have helped put this project in motion in North Dakota, but it is the veterans who share their stories, and the hundreds of volunteers all across the state who help gather and record those stories that are making this project such an exciting reality. more»

2003-2004 Academy Nominees

This year, I received many applications from good, qualified candidates throughout North Dakota. After reviewing them all, I have selected three outstanding North Dakota high school students for appointment to the U.S. military academies. These principal nominees are a credit to North Dakota, their families, and their schools. more»
