Each year, I have the honor of nominating a select
group of Oklahoma high school and college students for admission
to the U.S. military service academies: Army, Navy, Air Force and
Merchant Marine. These nominations are limited, and the principal
criterion for selection is excellence in academics and activities.
These nominations, if accepted by the academies, provide
young people with full, four-year scholarships at high-quality
educational institutions of their choice, as well as pride in the knowledge that
they are serving their country.
Applicants must be United States citizens between
the ages of 17 and 23 on the date they would enter the academy.
The application process for consideration of a nomination must be
completed by November of the year prior to entering an academy,
usually your senior year of high school. My Academy coordinator is Anita Tate and you will be working with her throughout this process.
The application for the class entering Summer, 2007 is available online. Please click on the link
academy.senate.gov and open your Academy Account to begin the procedure for securing a nomination. The first instruction within the website (after you create your account), states "if you prefer to complete a paper-based application, please logout and return to the Senator's website." This is NOT an option for this office. Applications are to be filled out and submitted on line. Please download and print the essay form.
Please understand that when you have completed the application and hit the "submit" button, you cannot go back to correct or make any changes. All changes and additions must be sent to the Tulsa office in the form of email or in writing. Anita will then amend your application. This procedure will assist you in the event you receive new test scores or wish to add awards or honors.Changes and additions will be accepted until 2 days before the Selection Committee meets. The Committee meets around the last week of November or the first week of December.
Anita can be reached by email at academy_nominations@inhofe.senate.gov, or by phone in Tulsa at 918-748-5111. If you are in the Oklahoma City area, pleaser phone 405-608-4381. For written correspondence, the address is 1924 South Utica, Suite 530, Tulsa, OK 74104. I am aware of the effort involved in obtaining a nomination, but Anita is available to help make this process as smooth as possible. Please feel free to contact her at any time.
I encourage you to also contact Sen. Coburn's office and the U.S. Representative for your district.
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a Congressional
nomination for admittance. If you are interested in attending the
