Regional Accomplishments - In 2004 for Southeast
Jan. 23, 2004 Won $2 million for Economic Development, specifically for the new Denali Commission Economic Development Committee to promote job creation in rural Alaska.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won State Veterans Per Diem Assistance, specifically won the state veterans per diem to defray the cost of caring for Alaska veterans who live in the state's Pioneers Homes.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won funding for Southeast social programs, specifically $100,000 for Wrangell's substance abuse program, $100,00 to the Wrangell youth Court, $500,00 to Sitka's Shelton Jackson College teacher training program, $200,000 to Juneau's Tlingit and Haida Central Council Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL) Program, $768,000 for Sitka to repair the water supply line to Japonski Island, $2 million to the Alaska Department of Education summer remedial education programs in Juneau to help students.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won $5 million to upgrade/construct women's shelters, money for use statewide to help combat domestic violence.

Feb. 12, 2004 Won rural airplane, floatplane ticket tax change, won two amendments in the Senate passed highway bill ending a $3 ticket tax for flights to rural airports and a tax on floatplane flights.

Feb. 12, 2004 Won extra rural highway funding, won a provision to give the Denali Commission $180 million over six years to build rural road improvements.

Feb. 12, 2004 Won extra ferry funding, in the Senate-passed highway bill won an additional $120 million a year for ferry work nationwide, a two-fold increase for ferries.
