Regional Accomplishments - In 2004 for South Central
Jan. 23, 2004 Won $5 million to upgrade/construct women's shelters, money for use statewide to help combat domestic violence.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won $2 million to investigate/prosecute rapes, sexual assaults in Anchorage, money from the FY '04 Commerce, Justice spending bill to help Anchorage pay the cost of intensified sexual assault prosecutions.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won 46 million for Knik Arm Bridge Studies, specifically to start detailed planning for the bridge-causeway from Anchorage to the Mat-Su Valley.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won $2 million for Economic Development, specifically for the new Denali Commission Economic Development Committee to promote job creation in rural Alaska.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won $500,000 for Anchorage Intersection Safety Work, specifically to improve several intersection near Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won $1.5 million for Keystone Road Paving at Soldotna, money needed to improve the road to the Kenai's popular fishing area.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won State Veterans Per Diem Assistance, won the state veterans per diem to defray the cost of caring for Alaska veterans who live in the State's six Pioneers Homes.

Jan. 23, 2004 Won funding for Anchorage, Mat-Su social, Southcentral programs. Specifically, $250,000 to United Way of Anchorage for domestic violence shelter support, $200,000 to Stone Soup Group in Anchorage for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome assistance, $2.5 million for Medical equipment for clinics, including money for an X-Ray machine in Seldovia, $200,000 for Anchorage's Akeela prison re-entry program, $1 million for construction of a Community Center in Cordova, $500,000 for repairs to the Valdez Senior Center, $795,000 to the Alaska InvestNet/Technology Venture Center in Anchorage to provide venture capital for new businesses, $750,000 to the Alaska youth Community Policing Initiative based in Anchorage to further the DARE anti-drug program.

Feb. 12, 2004 Won extra Rural Highway Funding, specifically the Senator won a provision to give the Denali Commission $180 million over six years to build rural road improvements—that on top of the $2.6 billion going to the State in the Senate-passed Highway bill.

Feb. 12, 2004 Won extra Ferry Funding, specifically in the Senate-passed Highway Bill won an additional $120 million a year for ferry work nationwide, a two-fold increase for ferries.

March 28, 2004 Won Water-Sewer Aid for new Mat-Su Valley Hospital, specifically making the state eligible for a grant for up to 75% of the estimated $6.5 million cost of running water and sewer to the new hospital near the junction of the Parks and Glenn Highways. The hospital should fuel 1,800 jobs and a $70 million yearly payroll (PL. 108-199).
