Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), right foreground, paid tribute Sept. 27 to friend and colleague, retiring Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.), left background.  Leahy and Jeffords came to Washington together in 1974, when Leahy was elected to the Senate and Jeffords to the House.  Jeffords delivered his final floor statement Sept. 27.  He will retire from the Senate when the 109th Congress adjourns.  For video of Leahy's remarks about Jeffords, click here.  For the text of his remarks, click here.
