Intern or Work Abroad

AIESEC is the world's largest student organization. They are a global network of 50,000 members across more than 83 countries and territories at more than 800 universities world-wide. AIESEC works with more than 11,000 different organizations across their global network to facilitate international exchange of thousands of students and recent graduates each year. Whether in a paid traineeship or as a volunteer for a non-profit organization, their experiences abroad will undoubtedly affect them forever.

Work in the non-profit sphere

Idealist.org provides resource guides about working in the nonprofit sector, tips on how to write an effective resume to get the job you want, things to consider if you are thinking of working or volunteering abroad, and tips on how to start your job search.

Volunteer opportunities

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve through more than 2,100 nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations. This site offers information on nationwide program sites and provides a comprehensive guide on how to join.

Teach For America: This is the national corps of outstanding college graduates of all academic majors and backgrounds who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to ensure that all children in our nation have an equal chance in life. The site gives an in-depth description of the different programs and provides information on the application process.

Peace Corps: This site provides detailed information about getting involved with the Peace Corp. Currently, 6,678 Peace Corps volunteers are serving in 70 countries, working to bring clean water to communities, teach children, help start new small businesses, and stop the spread of AIDS. Since 1961, more than 168,000 Americans have joined the Peace Corps, serving in 136 nations.
