PROTECTING INTEGRITY OF ELECTION PROCESS - HOUSE APPROVES VOTER ID ACT - The U.S. House approved legislation that combats the increased incidence of voter fraud around the nation.  The Federal Election Integrity Act, H.R. 4844, helps preserve the integrity of federal elections by requiring all individuals present a photo ID before voting in federal elections and eventually requires that voters must present a photo ID that certifies they are citizens of the United States.  “In a democracy, it is vital that we ensure that the election process is an honest process,” noted Iowa Congressman Tom Latham, a supporter of the measure. BORDER SECURITY MEASURE ALSO HELPS IN FIGHT AGAINST METH IN IOWA - The U.S. House of Representatives approved a Republican-authored proposal this week that aims to strengthen operational control of all borders and ports through the construction of additional physical barriers and greater use of state-of-the-art technology and surveillance.  Congressman Latham explained that the measure will go a long way in helping fight Mexico meth trafficking as well. REMOTE FETAL MONITORING SYSTEM A HEALTH CARE FIRST -Through new technology, medical facilities throughout northeast Iowa will soon have the capability to conduct important remote fetal monitoring providing the highest quality care to women and their babies during labor and delivery. The technology, which is considered the first of its kind in the United States, has received a financial boost through $350,000 in funding secured by Iowa Congressman Tom Latham. (MORE)

The U.S. House of Representatives has given final approval to legislation described as the most important child protection legislation of the last 25 years.  The legislation strengthens and improves sex offender registration and notification programs, enhances law enforcement resources, prevents child exploitation, stops child pornography and creates new criminal offense penalties protecting children from the Internet. U.S. HOUSE APPROVES PLEDGE PROTECTION AMENDMENT - The House of Representatives has passed legislation that protects the Pledge of Allegiance from activist judicial tampering.  “Today’s vote reaffirms our belief that all Americans should have the right to recite the traditional Pledge without judicial intervention,” stated Congressman Latham. CONGRESSMAN LATHAM IS CALLING YOU - Telephones were ringing throughout Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District the past few evenings.  On the other end of the line was Congressman Latham ready to talk and listen to Iowan’s views on current issues and give them an opportunity to ask him questions all from the comfort of their own homes.  Congressman Latham’s telephone town meeting is a new and innovative approach to the 400 traditional town meetings he has held in Iowa communities during his service in Congress.  Due to new technology, Latham is able to conduct listening and discussion sessions with Iowans over the telephone. LATHAM HELPS FUND FIRST IN THE WORLD LIFE SAVING TECHNOLOGY - A medical facility in Marshalltown, Iowa is developing technology that is expected to save many lives.  In fact, in the past few weeks a local physician can attest to how technology that will be used in cooperation with the new virtual reality diagnostic imaging protocol being developed by the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center saved his life when it found a 99% blockage in a major artery in his heart. PROMOTING IOWA RENE25% from renewables by 2025WABLE ENERGY -  Congressman Latham has announced his membership in a broad and politically influential renewable resources coalition known as 25x'25.  The group  unveiled a major new goal to secure 25% of the nation’s total energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, biomass and biogas by the year 2025.
