115th U.S. Congress (2018)
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) conducted a harvest (i.e., capture) of House and Senate public websites as they existed prior to January 06, 2019. This harvest was intended to document Congressional presence on the World Wide Web during the closing weeks of the 115th Congress (2018).
The harvest produced a public reference copy of the websites for the purpose of continual availability to the public, and also produced a record copy to be retained in the holdings of NARA.
Congressional Sites Harvested
Websites included in the harvest were identified from information provided by the Web Systems Branch of the House Information Resources staff and by Senate webmasters in the Offices of the Secretary of the Senate and the Sergeant at Arms.
The accuracy of the harvest was affected by these factors:
- The completeness of the list of URLs received from the House and Senate web management staffs.
- Whether those URLs resolved successfully, and
- The capabilities of crawler tools used (see Heritrix at http://crawler.archive.org/) and the server environment being crawled. See a report on limitations of capabilities [PDF].
